I purchased a 12 FT/R in 308 recently and have been shooting 168 smk's with great results. Now I'm reading the 168's don't do well beyond 900yds and begin to tumble. For those of you in the know, does the FT/R do better with the 155's or 175's when reaching out to 1000yds or beyond?

They shoot the 155 and the 175 at 1,000 yrd. You just need to pick the right one. Sierria (155 Palma B.C. 450 and 175 Matchking B.C. 505) and Berger (VLD B.C. 550). All are bullets that will make the trip. See which one will shoot the best in your gun.

When I compared these I had difficulty loading the 175 at a fast-enough node without getting into pressure problems. I was able to find a fast node for the 155 to keep it supersonic out to 1000. Then I cut off the barrel from 26" to 20" and switched to 6.5x47 for long range. That was before I checked out Power Pro 2000MR which is a whole new (better) higher velocity / lower pressure game.

It's only the 168 SMK's that tumble since they were designed for 300m competitions. Some ranges do allow them at their 1k competitions.

The 168 Berger and Nosler do not have the flaw.

Hmm. I like that idea better than switching to the 175's. Thanks guys.

I am shooting the Berger 185 VLD for 1K. I go back and forth between those and the 155 VLD. The 185's are a hammer in the crosswinds, but the 155's do better in head winds. I am still scratching my head how my 155 load is 3100fps with a 24" barrel.

So am I?

We are shooting a Lapua 155 Scenar that is a compressed load w/ Vaget and it's 3050 in the summer w/ a 29" barrel and 2950 in colder weather.
