New choate stock issues

Just received my stock in the mail today. Its a SA 10 4.4 its currently sitting at 40in lbs of torque on both action screws.

The front action isnt even sucked down on the bedding block all the way. When pressing on the barrel in a downwards motion the front action moves down as well thus closing the gap.

When pressing both the stock and barrel together in the same motion and looking through the dbm inlet you can see the dbm move outwards then sitting flush with the stock and the action begin to seat on the bedding block.

Does this picture of the dbm and bedding block look right? Im wondering if my dbm needs to be seated down more but thats as far as the cutout would let me atleast it seems. Did i install it too far out or something with my action screws length?

These pictures arent very good but hopefully by my description you can figure it out before i decide to break the action free and tinker with it. Would the tang not floating all the way cause this issue? Where you see the dollar stop is where the tang stops floating on both sides.

I thought I remember having to deepen my recoil lug slot a bit, as mine have Northland recoil lugs on them. My recoil lug slot is TIGHT also, I bet mine is only a couple thou wider than the lug. You may have to check the lug depth and width, if its good it may just take some wiggling to get it all the way home.

Im running a factory non accustock recoil lug there shouldnt be fitment issue but this was the first thing i thought of. I just came from home depot where they dont have the right washers to shim the action screws to see if thats it so ill have to order some.

Just ordered every 1/4-28tpi bolt from 5/16" through 1-3/4".

Have you measured the depth? Yeah finding fine thread in town is usually useless

No thats why i just ordered all those different sized bolts. One of them is bound to fit. The process to check is bolt dbm to action and measure then measure bedding correct?

Wow i feel so retarded. In a last minute effort to fix the issue i took it apart and noticed i put the shim for the front screw on the rear. Both parts of the action are now touching the bedding and its solid solid solid. Dbm is pulled nice and tight, bolt is runnin smooth all is well. Guess i was too dang excited. But alteast i have spare action screws.

One thing i did notice this time around when i torqued it down originally going up in increments it would turn the screws and then click twice. This time neither screws moved past 30in lbs but clicked twice at 40in lbs torque. Is that normal? Just trying to make sure i didnt damage my torque wrench somehow. Its beem awhile since ive used one but i always remembered the bolts always moved even a tiny hair before they clicked.

Anyone on the portion in bold in my last comment? Just doesnt seem like theyre torqued at 40in lbs if the screws didnt even move after i torqued them at 30in lbs.

If they bottomed out they could do that. Under normal circumstances they should have moved a little bit more. When I set one of mine in the Choate stock I did not use the factory screws so I don't know if I had a length deviation from the stock screws.

So basically theyre only torqued to 30in lbs then if in fact they bottomed out?

Yeah if they didn't move from 30# I bet they are. With 28tpi there not going to move much. You could try loosing them again go to 30 mark them and go to 40. I bet you would have some wear indication on the screw shoulder if you did bottom out.

With factory bottom metal the original bolts worked perfectly for me.
