Sporter 25-20

I recently inherited a Savage Sporter 25-20, serial number 36242. Took it to the range today and loved it. Any idea how old it is? All I can find online is 1923-1945. Not very specific.

What you have is a Model 23B. The Model 23A's were offered in .22 Long Rifle, the B's were offered in .25-20, the C's were offered in .32-20 Winchester, and the Model D's were offered in .22 Hornet. Mad Dog might be able to help you with the date if he ever returns from the deep dark bowels of the Canadian wilderness.

I just refinished a stock for a 23 sporter 25-20 that belongs to a widow woman that her father had, The one thing that impressed me was that the barrel and receiver are all one part, hers has a perfect bore so I bet it will be a shooter, I wish I could find a peep sight and a Magazine for her
