So I recently picked up a round back, accutrigger rifle to build the new project off of. It's a .270, and I need to go to a magnum bolt head. I've seen a lot of differing info on firing pin assemblies and bolt heads.

What do I need to check before ordering parts to do this swap? I'm trying to do this simply, and painfree... lol.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Just noticed this may need to be in the Parts forum, not the Gunsmithing forum. My apologies to the mods if that is the case.

IIRC the different firing pin assemble and baffle was only for the short-actions when they changed the lug thickness to create the S/A Heavy Magnum bolt head.

Hrmmm... so then am I to conclude that ALL long action firing pin assemblies are the same, regardless of caliber, magnum, or non-magnum?

Yes. That is correct. The only thing you have to watch is the older pins (for SA or LA) were a larger diameter than the newer ones. That change came somewhere in the late 1990's IIRC. The only other exception would probably be the newer special 338 Lapua actions. With the thicker lugs on the bolt head I am inclinded to think that they take a longer special length pin as well, but I am not sure.

Gotcha. My gun is a .270win that was manufactured in Jan of 2012, so it's fairly new, and definitely not a Lapua.
