My review of Mcgowen .223 from the Outlet

I bought a SS .223 7 twist bull pre fit at 26" from the Mcgowen barrel outlet early in the year, After I found a recipe it liked it has been an amazingly accurate. I have won several 40 round F class and F/TR matches with it this year and even posted my first clean 40 round score with it. Had a head shot ona deer at 150 yards with a deer damage permit, and the barrel continues to impress me. It will shoot 10 shot groups 1/2" or less at 100 yards and hold 1/2 MOA out to 300 yard no problem. It cleans easily with no copper and it gets cleaned after every match, doesn't even need fouling shots. Just wanted to thank Dennis and the Outlet for great service. Regards Dan

Dan, if you don't mind, if you could PM your load, I would appreciate it. I have the same barrel ready to install on my 223 and it would certainly save me some time.

In my sole opinion , it is my thought that mcgowen is a darn good barrel not yet accepted by the snob elite crowd that thinks that nobody can make a barrel better than the K company. I have 3 or 4 and they shoot really well. I for one will be buying more as time goes on.

+1 on mcgowen. I purcased a varmit contour 6.5 creedmoor barrel from the outlet. after I got the stock situation sorted It will easily shoot 3/8" groups at 200yds measured at the outside of the holes and 5 shot groups! And that is with very little load development. I posted a pic of the 200yd sight in target over on the creedmoor forum

I tried Varget and 75 hornady match bullets with nothing to write home about and the barrel seemed to heat up rather fast. I bought an 8 pounder of aa2495 a while back to try in the .308 but never got around to it so I gave the 2495 a try in the 223 and found a load right off the bat. I also substitute standard Federal small rifle primers with the same results. The barrel has a rather short throat so I haven't tried the 77's yet.
