I have to admit I got rid of my savage rim fire and traded it for a "rare" mosin nagant however I am giving centerfire savages a go! I put a trophy hunter xp in 243 in layway ,
I've heard many many good things about centerfire savage rifles and I have to say the over all fit and finish in the trophy was pretty good, the butt pad is the most cushiony cushion I've ever felt, the bolt looks so good and ws pretty smooth, not a fan of the mag though.
Question is what should I be expecting with this with standard factory loads? I plan on taking this out to 650 with the factory 3-9 Nikon bdc scope and factory ammo, that would be the furthest I've ever shot and I feel the 243 was a good choice

On the .243, that's a great and very versatile cartridge. I should have got mine in that, instead of the .223

Well in my area there's only 2 in stores, I didn't want a 270 and the 243 looks nice

I've been sold on .243 recently too. I actually just plonked down for some Lapua brass, I've been so impressed with the chambering. Now, if I could only find some more Berger 115gr bullets! The Trophy Hunter might not have a fast enough twist to stabilize the heaviest 6mm pills out there, but most commercial hunting loads are 100gr or less, meaning you're good to go with off-the-shelf fodder.

As for how the Nikon BDC corresponds to a specific load, Nikon's website (http://spoton.nikonsportoptics.com/) has a calculator to give you an estimate for a number of factory loads, but the only way to know for sure is to calculate the drops yourself.

What kind of accuracy you getting?

My .243 Axis has a Shilen prefit varmint barrel on it, so even though it does somewhere between 1/2" and 3/4" with five-shot groups at 100 yards, it's not your typical Axis. My .308 Axis with the factory barrel does just about 1" at 100 yards since I gave the trigger the old shim and trim.

Not bad for a budget rifle, though I've heard the 243 is a very accurate round

You should get under 1 MOA at 100 yards with the 243 trophy hunter. Mine did it with Winchester white box 100 grain bullets. I did have to relieve some of the material from the stock to free float the barrel channel. Yours may be ok.

Good, I'm hoping itl shoot 100-110 good because indiana hunting laws may change next year, also hope it like some of the lighter bullets because I plan on doing some varminting
