Would a 20" barrel be too short for this cartridge?

No a 20" will do 90% of what a 26"plus will do, only at very long extended ranges you will begin to see a difference.

do you think there will be excessive muzzle blast?

I do not think so, 45 some odd grains of powder will not make that much of a noticeable difference.

The only real fireball 243 I have seen was one of my original factory 14" Striker barrels. When I installed a 17" barrel the fireball went away. You will have nice handy rifle with the 20" barrel.

Do yourself a favor and get an 8 twist so you can shoot 107-115
