Savage 10FP action screw length

I'm trying to purchase a new B&C Medalist Stock for my Savage 10FP (bought used), unfortunately the rifle is still held at my FFL for the next 10 days so I can't measure it.

I wanted to order the stock online and be able to install it immediately once I officially get it.

Is there anyway to determine the action screw length from the serial number?

I'm told that Savage changed the action screw length in 2006. Is this correct?

My serial number is G2098XX.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new buy. I dont have anything to run your serial number, but maybe someone will chim in soon to tell you the DOM.

Can you call the ffl and ask them to measure it. That would be the best way, and have a 100% correct answer.

Anyways I need to learn to read the sticky's....

I'm guessing from Mad dog's comment in the "Date of Manufacture" post my rifle was made way earlier than the 2006 date when they changed the action screw length.


I only have data up until 2005 so anyone with a serial number over G444XXX please realise that I can't date your gun.

I've got a model 111 G28XXXX that is 2005 if that help's.

Savage did NOT change action screw lengths in 2006.....I don't know where anyone got that idea. They have been the same for years, but there are 2 different sets. Look it up in the FAQ's.

Fred, I think he meant to say action screw "spacing", not action screw "length". Pretty sure he just wants to know whether to order a #2997 or #2999 Medalist stock.

this is from the FAQ:

2nd Gen Short Actions = 4.275" (1998 to 2006, staggered feed magazine)
3rd Gen Short Actions = 4.400" (2006 and up, center-feed magazine, not shown in photo below)

Yeah thats what I meant "spacing" ... I'll try to use the correct term in the future.
