I currently own a Ruger M77 30-06 built in 1973 that I got from my FIL. When I got it from him he said it was a good shooter with 4" group at 100 yds. I figured he misspoke as he was a sniper in Kor/Nam and that is not a good group even for a novice like me, or perhaps that was off-hand. Anyway, I am just starting to look at "budget" long range shooting and going with a Savage, probably 10PC, as the Ruger is just not going to cut it. Was told about this site on another forum. After poking around a bit I am happy to be here, looks like a good site with lots of knowledgeable folks.

Welcome.

Have you shot the Ruger? Put it on a bench and see what you can get out of it. My $.02, and worth what you paid for it.

Be safe.

Welcome to the forums. Older Rugers can be very accurate rifles. See if the barrel is free floated, that goes a long way to aid accuracy.
