My local gun store has a nearly new Mark 2 that has sparked my interest. I would like to know which model it is. The rifle has a green nylon stock, and a heavy fluted barrel that I would put at about 18". The bolt has the rounded handle and there are no iron sights. There is no evident manufacturer's name on the included scope.

Can anyone tell me what model this is and if $235.00 sounds like a good price in what appears to be either unfired or nearly unfired condition? Thanks in advance.

I should add that the action and barrel are blued, not stainless.

Sadly, no one stepped up with an answer to this question. That said, I did some research on the Internet and it appears that this rifle is probably the Savage FVXP. Most that I have seen featured a black synthetic stock, but some offered the OD green version. I would be curious to find out who originally offered this variant, but have lost some confidence in this forum as a source of timely information.

Sorry your confidence is shaken in only a couple of days. Specific questions like this about special run gun especially, sometimes take awhile for the right person to stumble onto them.

To answer your question, IIRC both Dick's and Cabelas had Mark II's and Model 93's at one time that were offered in green stocks. I would say your estimation of it being a FVXP is probably a safe bet. If its in new or near new shape, $235.00 is not a bad price for an accu-trigger equipped model (assuming that it is).

Doesn't it feel good to accomplish something on your own? :)

Green stocks usually mean "no AccuTrigger" since they were usually stripped-spec package rifles. Being used, it could also be a case where the prior owner played mix-and-match with a Mark II model and a stock on hand from another model.

A call to Savage with the S/N would be more definitive than guessing based on a description.

Well, I bought it. The rifle was a prize in a raffle and had been supplied by the store where I purchased it. The woman traded it in, unfired, on a 10/22 at the recommendation of a friend. It does have the AccuTrigger. It appears to be a Spec FVXP aside from the color.

You should be happy with it. I have had a few of the Mark II's and the 93's and all treated me real well.

Took it to the range Sunday, and I am quite pleased. It shot quite well. I am going to enjoy very much getting the best I can from it.

I have been out to the range now twice and am quite happy with my rifle's performance.

I've seen a couple of very similar setups you describe that are Dicks Sporting Goods "distributor exclusives" around Metro Atlanta. Also chambered in .17HMR

I picked up a Blackhawk Sportster Pivot Bipod (9" - 13") for it tonight and installed it. I'm going to the range with my kids tomorrow, so it will be even more fun!
