Finally got my first savage build together. Started with a 111 .30-06 pulled it down to action and bolt. Added a 1:8 twist 26" mcgowen barrel finished by apache gun work (thanks scopeye !!) added a timney trigger and northland recoil lug and barrel nut. I got an awesome deal on a choate tactical stock and had a machinist friend mill it for the factory mag. Topped it with a vortex 6.5-20x44 in burris tac rings and Warne bases. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/25/31de5d028b2cf1b9d460da4d15df5b64.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/25/71816918e2a912eccb51af23d84c7a71.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/25/0459e25377f9eb59009ae0be78ddcb28.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/25/1a0fb051c9237511207460f89ea275bd.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/25/6cb9710d3b4ea93da3c07bc8681c260a.jpg I'll post a range report soon. If it shoots I'll paint the stock and duracoat the metal. Going to try and run 140 gn accubonds or 120 gn barnes ttsx bullets. I used Norma brass for my initial load testing. Trying rl 22 25 h4831 and IMr 7828 to start.

Did today. After I got it zeroed I shot this group. I really either need a cheek riser or lower rings. But a max load of imr7828 with no pressure signs shows some promise. I'll move up from there. These where 140gn sst at 100 yds http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/27/6af928d05ba3b212fd0d585d95808183.jpg shot off a Caldwell bipod using a sand sock.

Nice groups for the first time out thats going to be a hammer...id go lower rings first as your scope looks pretty high in the pics.

A good lookin accurate rig in a great caliber. Easy to make 1000 yards with that setup.

Finally got my new rings and bases in. Hope to get them on and shoot it before I leave for an elk hunt next week. Also finally got some accubonds and barnes in hand. Hope they shoot even better that the sst's I've never gotten superb accuracy with any hornady bullets in anything I've tried them in. Shoot good but not great.

Might also consider the 140gr Berger Match Target Hybrid.

Really a very nice rifle. I am impressed for sure!!

It's a killing machine. Shot a doe at 335 yds. With the 129gr barnes ttsx (thanks scope eye for the load data help). It shoots exceptional with a stout charge of h4831. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/07/828218fd776214b26022050d3e77cef0.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/12/07/55960934020e68095466ff35ec17b8fd.jpg
