I want to convert a model 12 target to 7mm WSM or SAUM. I know the correct push feed SA boltface does not exist. Can I get my gunsmith to cut down the 'tail' on a long action magnum boltface so it will fit the short bolt ?

Yes you can. Not difficult at all. Been there done that.

+1. I did that exact thing for my 6-WSM. Remember to recut the chamfer back into the rear after you grind it down. Otherwise your firing pin will stop really short, and of course rest your pin protrusion as with any bolt head swap.

Do I need to change the baffle and the firing pin as well ?

No on the baffle.

With the firing pin you will just need to adjust out your protrusion. In the fired position you need .035"-.040" sticking through the face.

I'll see what I can do. Still working up loads trying to go faster and faster, but so far I am up to 3750fps with a 105 A-Max.

Sorry for the derail, now..............:focus:
