Hello all,

New member here and currently the owner of two Savage 110’s both in caliber .30-06 with integral scope mounts. However, the second rifle I just purchased appears to have bonded mounts instead of integral machined mounts (see pic's 1 and 2). Can anyone tell me more about these rifles? Did Savage machine mounts on the receivers for a while? Did they permanently bond mounts as well?

Thanks in advance.

Not the expert others are here but second photo looks like someone bedded the bases to the action. My guess they are/were removable?

Not the expert here either but I've heard tell of both cast and bonded mounts. Believe Savage tried the cast receivers to cut costs but didn't last long. Also there was a period where they experimented with the soldered-on mounts too. Don't think that lasted long either.

Here's one with soldered on mounts...

You can see the solder beads between the receiver and mount, its not drilled-tapped. Also, notice how the port is milled forward. That is all factory. I bought it from the original NIB owner.

So the integral mounts are on a cast receiver and the other is soldered on. Very good, I can deal with that!

Thank you guys for the answers.

the cast was first and they had problems with warping during heat treating.

Thanks, just purchased it for a reasonable amount off Gun Broker of all places.

Here's another pic from the auction:
