.257 Roberts load info

Looking to start a Roberts project in the near future. Anyone want to share their favorite loads, techniques, etc?

Make it a .257AI and you'll be even happier. 85/87 grn bullets near perfect for this cartridge. 3500fps easy to attain W/O abusing brass. Almost zero case stretch after fire forming and a few more perks.

I'm a sucker for classics. Otherwise I'd have done a .25-06 or similar.

However the barrel is a fast twist to run the heavy bullets.

The standard 1:10 twst stabilizes bullets up to 115 gr. for me. Other than the 117 gr how much heavier can you go? Or what do you plan to hunt? ............... BTW have had excellent accuracy from IMR-4064 in all weights. And its a "classic" powder :)

It's a 1-9 twist. I want to shoot 115 and up and not have to worry about it.

Well, JC ....... I understand where you're coming from. It's been quite sometime since I've shot a standard .257 Rbts. If its any help my Sierra manual shows 117gr thru 120 gr accuracy load as 38.5 gr H-4350 (max load in test rifle) Hunting load is 42.1 grs RE-22 (1.8grs under max) Hunting load is 100FPS faster than accuracy load........ I got my .257AI accuracy load from the Sierra manual and it proved to be "as advertised"....... I've used rem. brass in both versions and weight sorted to get rid of the odd balls. No neck turning or other OCD prep except to insure flash holes were clear. I anneal cases and F/L size after each 3rd firing. Use a Lee LCD between F/L sizings. With the standard .257 having steeper shoulders this interval might not work for you. If I were shooting a standard .257 again I'd probably F/L size each time. Just my .02 worth.
