New to savage

I'm a new member and I Just bought my first rifle the savage axis in .223 I have a redfield revenge accu ranger varmit 4-12x-42 along with weaver base and Burris 1" rings gonna be my coyote gun. My question is should I plan on doing the extractor right away or should I wait til it acts up? I'm decent mechanic wise never really tore into a rifle is this a hard job or take your time and it's easy?

Welcome. And wait, yu may never have a problem with it. Not all the detent balls are problematic.

You could argue it is more preventative maintenance though

It's not a part that will fail someday if you don't replace it. If it's too small, it will fail someday. But it's not as common as you might think just by doing searches. I have over a dozen and have never had an issue. No harm in replacing it, I suppose. But maybe it would be just as well to acquire the part and hold on to it just in case.
