just curious , mine is 285gr. hornady, lapua brass, H1000 at 80.8 grains around 2500 fps. my brother is telling me that seems slow .

all test loads are shot at 200yards for now . 5 shot groups all holes are touching each other , overall distance apart is 1.5" human error i guess.
hopefully i explained that correctly

I would post this question on snipershide as a lot of guys there are into this round heavily.

You could push it quite a bit faster than 2500 that's for sure. If accuracy is good and its doing what you want then no big deal. However you could improve trajectory quite a bit. Using the same bullet with rl25 I found an accuracy node around 2700. Rl33 gives the extra velocity over rl25 and shoots very well in my fcp.

+1 on looking over at Snipers Hide. Look in their RELOADING area. They have a section dedicated to 338 to 50 cal. In there you will find a ton of info on the 338LM. The generalities of what you will find are: Lapua Brass ONLY, FGMM 215M Primers, Retumbo is THE powder with H1000 a close second and a few using R25 or R33 with good results, for bullets it gets more variable; If there was a go-to bullet, it would probably be the Sierra 300 Match King, but the Hornady 285HPBT and AMAX are LOVED, Lapua Scenars have a very good reputation as well.

My personal load in my 110BA is Lapua brass with FGMM 215M, Retumbo, and Hornady 285HPBT sitting .010 off the lands with a COAL of 3.709". 93-94 grains of Retumbo yields 2830-2865fps and accuracy has been WELL under 1/2MOA with many groups at 100yds being in the .2-.3 range.

Hope that helps some

Retumbo is a dirty powder :(

I've had NO such issue with Retumbo being dirty at the pressures it was designed to be used at. Light loads might be dirty....up the charge and things get pretty clean

I have read about it being dirty many many times. I have never used it?
I have two lbs & two lbs of R33
H1000 is the **** in my Surgeon Remedy . 1000 yards is a joke ;)
I'm shure it will do just as good and 50 fps faster maybe more?

Make sure you fact check that load as internet loads can be disasterous. Just check in a reloading manual to make sure it is not over book recommendation.
