243 model 12 convert to 300 wsm Question

Hey Guys

I have a Savage Model 12LRP in 243 with Large Shank.
I want to see if I can buy a new 300 WSM Drop in Barrel from Shelin and change the bolt face
to convert this. is this possible and would there be any problems with this

Should not be an issue at all. Firing pins may be of a different size for the bolt face, but not sure. I did encounter this once. Of course you would need a new magazine to feed or get an SSS single shot adapter.

:If you are going to use Savage factory WSM bolt head then yes you will need a different firing pin since the WSM head is longer in the lugs it requires a longer firing pin.

Many people (myself included) have used regular long action magnum bolt heads on WSM's.Tto Make a LA head work in a SA you just need to shorten the rear stem by .125" IIRC and then recut the chamfer back into the stem's thru hole and bingo, WSM-SA bolt head. No new pin required, just reset your pin protrusion and you're good to go.
