are any of you guys shooting harnady brass? what caliber? how many reloads do you have on it? what do you think of it?

reason i ask is i normally shoot nosler in my 300WM but seen a box of of hornady at sportsman and thought id give it a try. last night i prep'd it all and so far im not impressed, the primer pockets were all different depths and varied quite a bit. the OAL was 2.615 to 2.620, the flash holes were very small and had some nasty burrs on the inside of the flash holes. now the bad part...i weighed a few cases(maybe 15)and they varied up to 5gs...ive shot out 200 nosler cases and have never had a batch that varied more than 1g with the exception of 1 case that was 1.5g heavy. im hopping the hornady shoots well and holds up but have my doubts...the pic is the pile of brass after uniforming 50 hornady cases next to a 260 remington case for a reference.

I was given a box of Hornady for 7mm rem mag. It was some of the worst brass I've ever seen. It was very soft, didn't shoot consistently. I quickly switched back to Winshester brass.

thats what i figured after preping this brass...stupid on my part as i should have weighed it first...im going to try to off it to a buddy that shoots a 300 vanguard as i dont even want to waste my time with it. i was hopping the brass was as nice as their bullets.

I kinda regret throwing my brass away now that I think about it. I just polluted the landfill.

I give all my old brass to a guy that runs a place that dilivers food to the elderly he scraps it and uses the money for gas to deliver the meals.

^^What he said^^

I went thru the same thing with .243, 25.06, 30.06, .308, 7-08,....

I've had more consistent results with Fed & Rem brass and I didn't have to hock my soul to afford it.

Case weight can vary but for consistency case volume is what matters. I would see how that does before giving it away.

when a case varies 5+gs you can bet that the capacities vary plus if i shoot it and its garbage im stuck with worthless brass,id rather sale it instead of chance it and buy nosler brass.

You did the right thing by scrapping the brass. With all the chips shown in the pics coupled with the wide variation in wgt., no telling how thin some of the case heads might be now. Thin case heads = KABOOM !

Case heads are fine I uniformed the primer pockets deburred and uniformed the flash holes and trimmed .005 to .010 off the necks to get them all to 2.610 OAL.

I just shot 5 rounds with a good load and had a 5" group at 200yds so I'm done with these.

I'm assuming that, gotcha, is referring to the distance from the case interior to the bottom of the uniformed primer pocket.

Maybe but remember I trimmed .005 to .010 off the necks...this was the total brass removed from 50 cases. Primer pocket min is 0.1250 max is 0.1320 I cut mine to 0.129.0 so im well with in saami specs.

Nosler brass is weighed prior to boxing and usually within a grain tolerance. I've had OK luck with it. I use mostly Lapua now. Like they say,cry once.

I shoot lapua brass in my 260 and wish they made it for a 300wm...I think im going to try the nosler in my 260 because there is a little more case capacity. I like H4831SC in the 260 but cant get enough in the lapua case to get any velocity...at 44g its very compressed...crunching starts at about 42.5g.

I was not impressed with the Nosler brass at.
Primer pockets started getting loose at first firing.
Neck up some Win 243 brass, lots of case volume and better life than the Nosler, after prepping same accuracy also.

I have had good results with the Nosler .260 brass. Liked it enough that also bought their .257 Roberts brass.

The Hornady brass I use is in .30-06 that I load for my M-1903 for CMP Springfield matches. Most of it is Frontier headstamped but came as commercial brass I collected in the mid 90's. Have loaded this stuff about 4 time now and it is still good.

I'll stick with Nosler brass.
For the money is the best I've been able to lay my hands on.
6.5x284
30-06
.338 Win Mag

Those are my three calibers and all get Nosler brass.

You have to be kidding, you shot one load and you feel it is junk. Try experimenting with charge weights and seating depth next. If cases vary only 5 grains you are lucky. You aren't giving it a chance. I ran a ton of hornady brass through a 6-284 and necked down the hornady 6.5x284 brass and it shot good and held up fine. I say give yourself more time.

I have had very good luck with the Hornady 204 Ruger brass. I am currently on 5x reloads with no issues and excellent accuracy.

I recently got a supply of 1x fired 308 cases and I am seeing no issues with it. I am on the second re-load on those cases so I can't speak to longevity. In comparison, the Federal match primer pockets are loose after two to four firings so I hope that the Hornady 308 brass lasts longer. I spend a lot of time on 308 match prep (it's a tight neck rifle so I have to turn necks). Same accuracy as the Federal 308 match with these Hornady cases. So far, I haven't seen the same issues that I am hearing from other folks.
