Hi everyone,

Been lurking here a while trying to learn some new stuff. I have seen a lot of great info and helpful people, so I thought I should join up. I have been tinkering with some 10/22's and AR's but am mostly interested in the bolt gun stuff now. I have a 12VLP in .308 that I have been struggling with. It has not grouped well at all with factory ammo, and I finally am getting a few groups under an inch at 100yds. with handloads. Not what I was expecting when I bought the gun, but am determined to wring a little more out of it. I look forward to getting to know you guys better and learning more good stuff.

Welcome Brett. I had similar experience with a 11 trophy hunter 223 Rem. Hand loads performed better than factory. 12VLP in 308 should get you there.

Welcome from the north Denver metro. So where do you shoot?

I have been shooting out at Great Guns northeast of Fort Collins. I live in Berthoud, so it is about an hour drive. Need to find someplace closer.

Most of the places between you and me have lengthy waiting lists. Pawnee is free but far and a bit crowded on the weekends unless you can find a good spot. I have not been out there since the Forest Service opened the Baker Draw range http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recarea/?recid=80588

I belong to CRC out in Byers. Not close, but no waiting list, lots of ranges, lots of matches, and practically empty on weekday mornings, which is when I like to shoot. Not many other ranges give you access to 1000 yards.

Weld County Fish& Wildlife has pretty decent ranges and is not far from where you are shooting now.

Do you know if Berthoud Gun Club is open for anything other than Trap?

Be safe.

I am on the waiting list for Weld County. I think the memberships open up in the fall, so I could be in soon. Berthoud Gun Club has a small rifle range for 22 rimfire only from what I understand. I have looked at CRC's website. It looks like a nice facility, I may have to look into it some more.

I belong to WCF&W. Renewals are due in October and openings to new members are after January 1st. My experience with loading for Savage is that seating depth is critical (longer than magazine length) and not all throats are completely concentric and a bore scope will reveal that.

There is a 600 yd range at Cheyenne, WY and a 1,000 yd range at Laramie, WY and both have F-Class matches.
