Haven't put any of these through my 308 yet. Been out of stock most places online. Local academy had maybe 20 boxes.

Picked up 2 for now.

How much was it? I've been sitting on a box for so long I don't even have a 308 anymore.

That ammo suprised me to no end. My 10FCP-K 24" did great with those loads.
I took one apart to see what gives. To my eyes, the propellant look that of IMR4064, so it just so happened I had all the components to try to duplicate there load (federal match primers/brass/168smks). I clocked there speeds and had to lighten my load chrg to match theres and I hit pay dirt. The one thing that suprised me though was the amount of uneven and heavy crimp marks on the pulled 168.
If I had real deep pockets Id just assume buying 500 of Factory FGMM in 168 but seeing as how most of us dont?...then reload mania here we come.
Great buy on those...........now go get 2 more boxes...loolo

I got my kids each a box once. They were just slightly better then ok. But could have been the girls too. They hadn't been shooting long. They always did well with 150gr blue box and exceptionally well with the 165gr DeerThugs. I just couldn't see any reason to pay more for a just slightly more consistent ammo for plinking.

Now I reload for them and use amax, interlocks or sst's in the 165-168gr depending on local availability. Load the 165pt's for hunting but it's hard to justify the price when the Hornady are shooting so reliably at less then half the price. I was seriously considering privipart but they run about the same price as Hornady.

I just bought my 308 and just started reloading. Still very green. Started reloading some 150 gr SMK and TSX. Been wanting to try something heavier. Figure I'll see how these 168 smk run and I can go from there on reloads. Really wanting to try the amax as well. I've gotten good result so far with reloads. I have about 150 rounds of various 308 right now. Need to go shoot them. Plan on TSX for hunting this season and SMK for target.

Clint if you like matchkings try equivalent weight Gamekings, you can use the same load or close as a matchking and they should be almost as accurate and hit close to the same point. Around 2800 fps they make nice little mushrooms on game, and are inexpensive.

In medium velocity cartridges for medium sized game, all copper bullets are not really needed

That's a plan Luke. I initially picked up the TSX because that was one of the only bullets in stock locally and people have had good results hunting with them in 223. I plan to try the game kings as well

Good Deal Clint! The gamekings have always worked well for me on game and paper!

I took apart some 165 GK Federal loads and to according to my measurements the powder weight was not the same as the 168 Match King. I find when using 4064 that I have to back it off a bit to get the same POI and velocity when shooting the gameking bullet.

I love the fact that the 165 and 168 federal loads shoot same POI it really makes me think they have optimized that load. Also nobody pointed out that they often have a black bullet seating compound at the case neck.

I don't run em real hot but 168 amax and 165 sst's are shooting consistently at 1" . 44.8gr of 4064 in WW cases with whatever primers I can find. Plinkers I load down to 41.8 and find as accurate or better.

Rumors the federal match stuffs using rl15 or something simular now. I might give it a try sometime but 4064 has been doing so well I hate to put time into exploring others.

I just busted open a 175gr Federal match king and found between 41.88 and 42 grains of what looked like 4064. I have only shot one group of this bullet weight and it shot not quite as good from my savage 308 at about .7" vs the normal .5" for the 168grain version. I need to shoot it some more to see if that hold true.

Ive done well with the simple 150smks. at the time of development for the 150,s I was using rl-15 and hit pay dirt. cant find rl-15 anymore and went the way of varget. i must say the rl-15 did much better

great info. Ive taken a FGMM in 168 apart and the load chrg was 42.8 of 4064. Ive always been inquisitive on the 175,s which is super cool to know because Ive found my sweet spot to be at 41.5gr of 4064 with the 175 smks...
