A year or so ago I picked up a Savage semi-auto. I have/had been working under the assumption it was a 720. Recently I thought it could be a 745. The more I have been researching, the less sure, and was hoping someone could help me out in a big way. I'll try and give as much relevant information as I can think to give, and more than happy to answer questions about it for more info.

Barrel length is ~28", 1 in the chamber/4 in the tube. The receiver is magnetic (steel), and the barrel is marked 'Proof Tested, 12 Gauge.' The receiver has no model number or scroll work. I'm not sure if this is a budget model of the 720 or just a different model. Only markings in the receiver read "Savage Automatic Manufactured By Savage Arms Corporation. Uticha, NY USA" Serial number is 36433.

The lack of scroll work is what has thrown me off. I haven't really found a model that resembles it online.

its a model 720, the 726 upland sporter has the same features but a two round mag the 740-c skeet had a 24 1/2 in bbl with a cutts compensator and the 745 had an alloy reciever. Your gun was made between 1930 and 1949.
