I want to put a 16" barrel chambered in .300-221, 1/8" twist, with muzzle threads, on a Savage 10 (.223) receiver. Any suggestions on where to go for a wildcat barrel like that?

And while we're at it: Do any distributors sell unbarrelled Savage 10 receivers?

Check Jim at NSS http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php/topic,1552.0.html for the action. Pac-nor shows the 300 whisper in thier wildcat chamber section. I'm sure there are others that have the reamer but the ones I checked don't list it. I think I remember reading that Sinman has that reamer. You will just have to ask.

I bought one from SSS - good barrel. One thing to note is that his chamber is for true 300-221 (made from 221 brass). Shortened and formed 223 brass wouldn't work without neck turning (not a big deal - just something to know).

I thought it was the other way around: 300 Whisper / 300 Fireball are made from .221 Fireball brass but 300/221 is typically cut for the neck thickness that results from cutting down .223 Remington brass. (At least that's what Wikipedia says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/300_whisper) right now.)

As far as I know, 300 Whisper is a trademarked, proprietary name and folks that don't want to get into trouble with SSK call it something else (300-221, etc.). As with all wildcats, actual dimension vary depending on who makes the reamer.

I have made probably 20 of them, everything from a straight 1.250" barrel to a tiny sporter.
