I just put together my first 110 build (22-250 barrel ) and after setting the head space using the correct gages and I've been checking to find the lands location using a modified 22-250 case and all my measurement are right at 2.5 inches.....which seems extra long according to the specs I've seem for 22-250. Is there enough case neck to even hold a bullet if the lands are that distance? The barrel was used so does that mean it's wore out? my cases are new never fired. Any help is appreciated.

Who machined the barrel? and how used was the barrel, as in how many shots.

it's a savage 26" factory barrel....don't know nothing else about it. I wanted to get a barrel from you scope eye and I probably will when I get recouped from having to buy a reloading press and all the tools and fixings just to shoot a 22-250, I had to go cheaper on the barrel this time but cheaper might have bitten me this time.....the barrel was in really good shape inside and out but pretty isn't always good as I've found out the hard way in life.

I have a new Savage factory barrel in 22-250. Just measured using a 55gr Hornady V-Max and "jam length" on the lands resulted in a OAL of 2.5"....Base of the bullet was at the contact point between shoulder and neck. Don't think anything is wrong with your barrel.

Just started reloading with this barrel. Shot the Winchester 55g Varmint-X factory stuff first....it shot ok but not good enough to buy more! Think I am going to try Benchmark and IMR 8208 XBR with 60gr Noslers. The Savage is a 1-12 twist so the 60 should stabilize just fine.

You can stabilize a Sierra 69gr in a 22-250 with a 12 twist, I use 40gr of RL17 and am not even remotely close to seeing any pressure signs.

Is that the twist of a 26" savage factory varmint contour barrel? 12

i shoot 22-250 with oal of 2.50" with 53 gr bullets, the bullet hits the lands at OAL of 2.506" so 6 thou off, and yes they stay in fine.
