model 12 223 Varmint Accutrigger heavy

I bought this about a year ago and have never been real happy with the heavy trigger pull, but didn't measure it till today because I haven't shot it much since then...

It will go from 2.5 to 3.5. That ain't right. Any advice?

Sit and dry fire it for about an hour and see if it breaks in a bit if it is still relatively new.

Take the spring out of it and clip about 1 coil off. If that's not good enough, clip .5 coils each time until you get it where you want it. Or....you can call SSS and order the target spring for around 5 bucks that will take it to about 1 pound or so. I use either of these on all of mine with great results.

Still, the Varmint trigger should be adjustable to much less than that, shouldn't it?

I think the varmint trigger only goes down to 2 or 2.5# the standard accu-trigger is 3.5-4# and up.

Okay. That may be. Someone sold me one that went just under 1#. Figured they were supposed to. From what I have seen they all very. My best one was a standard. Go figure.

There are a lot of other factors that contribute to trigger pull other than the trigger itself. A stack up of tolerance, differences in geometry and the weight of the main spring will all affect the load on the trigger.

Gotcha.

Some might yell "foul!" but just for kicks I ground down the sides of the sear a bit to narrow it and reduce surface area... I figured I did not like it the way it was, and with the safety blade there, what the heck?? It's now at about 10-12 ounces and doesn't slip. Not as crisp as SSS Comp but its shoots. Will see how long it lasts before it wears out like that.
