For the 80s, start with 31.0 gr of Varget and start working up. I shoot these briefly in my 1:8 twist 6BR. It think around 32.0 gr worked best for me. You could go a lot faster but groups opened up. I switched to 4895 and liked my results better. Luck, Tim

Thanks. That's where I am with the 80's. Just wasn't sure that was a "proper" load.

I bought this barrel used from Boots, who got it from a friend... right away I was getting true 1/4 inch groups. Before putting it away, two other guys at the range shot a couple groups and they, too, got 1/4 inch. (and one of them is not really a shooter). We couldn't miss. I was thrilled! I thought I found the Holy Grail. Since then it's shooting right around 1/2 no matter what the load.

If the group sizes have change with the same everything else, I doubt the load is the problem. Things to look at:
1. Scope mount screws
2. Keep the crown for damage
3. Have you taken the stock off recently or change the changed the tension on the action screws?
4. Possible copper built up? Good barrel cleaning might help.
5. All barrels go south at some point, what is the round count?
6. Most important- you mentioned 0.25" groups. Where these shot under perfect conditions? If you hoping for 0.25" groups without the educated use of windflags on any normal day you going to be sadly disappointed. We all get luckly and post the occasional wallet group. Don't be concerned about a single group. The average of 5-5 shot groups tells you how well you gun actually shoots.

Luck, Tim

#5. Right. That was three guys shooting consecutively. We all were shooting 1/4 INCH.
#4. I cleaned good today. removed copper. Its shooting better. Have a load of varget at 32.2 4shot groups at .27 no wind.

Thanks guys

Finished shooting several 4 shot loads with .1 difference between them. Cleaned between ever group and shot 2 foulers before each. had a good group with 32.2 grs, but at 32.3 and 32.1 were over 1/2 inch with vertical strings. I am expecting those around 32.2 to be nearly as good, so that frustrates me. Will load up a bunch at 32.2 again and see what they do next week.

You might want to try a little Iosso or JB's scrub to see if hard carbon fouling is effecting groups? My 6BR bbl has about 175 rounds through it. Using JB's at 100 rounds noticeably shrunk groups.

Hmmm. .. Okay. I have noticed it likes to be clean. Much more so than my other aftermarkets, and certainly more so than factories. Will keep that in mind. Thanks.
