Hi,

I can't seem to get a straight answer by searching. I am looking at buying a newer Model 11 (with bottom bolt release) in .243 and want to know if the bolt will work in my already built up Stevens action (with side bolt release) thats currently in .223. I am buying the Model 11 for the barrel, nut and bolt to go with my current build. Are the bolts interchangeable?

Thanks.

Yes they are. Should work fine as long as your Stevens is a Short action. Internal parts may be different between the two bolts as some of the newer ones have gone to different style springs and sleeves, but they should still work ok between the actions.

Boots is correct but left out one small detail, the bolt head needs to be changed. 223 is different than the 243.

Perhaps, but he said he wanted the bolt, nut, and barrel to go with his Stevens 200 build. My guess is he is gearing up for a switch-barrel rig. I could be wrong.

But yes, if you are going to replace the bolt, you will need the proper size bolt head for your cartridges chamber, and if the bolt is different (even if the same size head) you must recheck and reset the headspace.

Thanks everyone. I am gearing up for a switch-barrel rig. I will have two bolts, one for .223 and another for .308 family. Thanks for the advice and I really appreciate this forum and really have liked the savage rifles and the ability to modularize them.
