Small Shank or Large Shank?

Need a lil help with this. I am new to this forum and I have just recently purchased my new savage Model 12 BVSS and I am thoroughly pleased. Trying to research some different barrel configs and I see this reference to small shank and Large shank and I am not afraid to admit my ignorance. Any help would be appreciated and with my BVSS what would I need small or Large? Thanks

I would also like to welcome you to the forum Dave! The link Dana has pointed you to is very good, as is all of the info and help here. Asking for help here is great! Everyone is eager to help and would rather have everyone be safe than sorry. Just let me warn you about the addictions of the "different barrel configs" you speak of.... It's truly an addiction (but it's also an investment ;D).
