With Savage coming out with the HB for the Axis, Does anyone know if the stocks from Boyds will have enough wood on the forearm to open up for the HB? I have a 223 coming and I want to order a stock for it, but from the pictures I see it looks like the top of the forearm is a little thin and tapers in towards the barrel like the factory stock does.

I called Boyds about this because I was curious as well. The support representative told me they were designed specifically for the factory sporter barrel and he didn't think the heavy barrel would properly fit. Then I asked him about modifying the stock and apparently they are not allowed tell you that you can do that.

So it's probably going to be a lot of trial and error since it's such a a new product.

Most of the stocks can be opened up for a heavier barrel (I use a deep socket wrapped in sandpaper). I have 3 Axis with heavy barrels on them, and they are all in Boyd's stocks (2 in Tacticools, 1 in a prairie hunter). I've also opened up a classic for a 110 heavy barrel.

The Tacticools have plenty of wood left on the edges, the prairie hunter not as much, but it still looks good IMHO.

Got any pictures? I think it would help everyone including myself to see it. This is going to be a on-going question when someone buys these.

My Tacticool has at least 1/4" of rail on the forearm even after being opened up for a varmint contour barrel.
