Magazine compatibility

I am converting a long action staggered feed from 270 win to 300 win mag. The question I have concerns the magazine box and follower. Will I need one specifically for the 300 or will the one from the 270 feed fine without making any changes?

Savage did use a different mag box and follower for the 7RM and the 300WM and other belted mags in the SF actions. However some people have had decent results using 30-06 based cartridges in the magnum box/follower and vice-versa. Give it a try and see. You may also be able to tweak the lips of your 270 mag box to feed the 300WM.

Only way to know for sure is to try it, but switching to the 300WM box/follower would be a sure a thing.

I'm doing this same conversion-270 to 300 WM. Just wondering if you got the 270 mag to work, and what you did to it.

I am just now getting ready to put it all together. I ended up getting a mag follower from Brownells who just got them in stock. I am going to try and tweak the feed lips on the mag box. I was noticing that the mag box has the same dimensions as the 270 box with the exception of the feed lips so hopefully I can make it work. If not I may try to find someone with a serial number on a 300 mag and see if Savage has any mag boxes in stock. I will hopefully have the stock in this week so I can put together this weekend.

Me too on this one. Looking to put 300 win mag in a LA stagger feed. I have a DBM metal bottom of the older design for 30-06.
