Tuperware stock for $17.00 (Pic Heavy) (RANGE RPT)

I had heard of this being done and my brother wanted this done on his 7mm-08 Stevens 200 so I thought I'd give it a try. My objective is to make the Stevens 200 stock usable for very limited coin. These are my results so far:

Purchased:
Fiberglass bondo kit: $13.00
Aluminum L channel: $4.00

Started with a Base stagger-feed cheepo stock:

Next Dremel enough material out to ensure your L chanel will fit low enough not to come in contact with the barrel:

Next Cut and trim your channel to ensure it does not come in contact with the barrel nut, Swivel stud bolt or end of stock:

Next remove channel and mix and insert resin: I used half the bottle as the base, mixed it and made sure I filled each section of stock as I went (also ensure the stock has a slight forward tilt to keep reason back away from your recoil lug block):

Next insert channel into resin, make up next batch of resin this time using 1/2 of the remaining resin (1/4 of bottle). Insert reason around sides of channel and down middle of channel, then use stick in kit to move resin to outsides of channel as it begins to firm. Cut fiberglass material and insert into resin then skim coat top of material:

If you do get resin up against where recoil lug is to be placed cut resin with knife roughly 4-5min after install. Ensure you cut away enough material to ensure recoil lug properly seats against stock face:

Sgt, be aware that the flex point on those stocks is way back near the barrel nut. Stiffening the forearm alone wont do what you are trying to do, it will help a little but it will still flex some at that point. Been there, done that. My favorite hunting rifle I made in 7x57 has the unmodified plastic stock and I find as long as there is enough gap in the barrel channel I have no problem under normal conditions. A bipod is not recommended with these stocks as they tend to twist the forearm which is the worst problem with flex.

The area you mention is currently completely filled with fiberglass. You don't think that is enough?

I just done the same thing to a 200 in 22-250 while it did help some there is still some flex there.

I did something similar, was a vast improvement. Still had some flex but much better than factory.

Shot roughly 1.5 MOA before. And we never supported it out toward the end of the stock. The stock has very little to no flex now. It's not quite as stiff as my B&C but it's close.

I got as far as you did a few months back, but used two part epoxy to bed the aluminum channel to the stock. After I had everything just right, and there was no contact with the barrel, I thought I would try bedding the action with JB weld. I ended up throwing the stock away. JB weld does not work for bedding an action. I also found that much of the flex does come from just ahead of the recoil lug. Good job on modding the stock though, the improvement you got was well worth the small amount of cash you put into it.

Yeah my brother is very happy with his budget build for now. It makes me sick to know that the 7mm-08 round is so much more accurate than my 308rd. But I want to be able to compete in the 308 only matches so I have to make old faithful work. I'm in serious need of a new barrel for my rig but other bills have been taking priority lately.
