Savage 12 F/TR Scope Mounting

Hello.

So, the rifle is just about ready to take out to the range. I got the mount, the Sightron SIII, and Burris high Zee Rings. I spent a lot of time yesterday carefully centering the scope on the mount and fastening it down. As you may know, Burris has these plastic inserts that can give you up to 20 MOA extra elevation if desired; however, I mounted the scope with the standard 0 MOA inserts.

After placing the scope on the mount, I noticed that the fit was VERY tight. So, I tightened the screws down just enough so that I wasn't putting extreme pressure on the mount and scope. I decided to stop, just to be sure I was doing this right, take some photos, and show you what I mean.

So, how does this look? Is the tightness associated with the Zee Rings pretty typical? I just dont want to hurt this 900$ scope....

I did not know the 12 F/TR was a target action...hmmmmmmmm

1) As long as the rings are the right size for the scope.
2) Torque wrench. Get an inch pound spec from the scope manufacturer. Sightron website.
If you are planning any LR shooting go +20 on the rings.

Anyway...

I read a bit of comments from people who bought it on Amazon...they say the same thing....in most cases the rings are tight to very tight.

I'm just going to buy a torque wrench. I'm not going to guess with this set up. Too much money involved....

The inserts will be snug on the scope
A torque wrench would be a good investment
I am working off memory but 20 inch lbs seems like what I tighten to
I usually snug the rings down evenly to "seat" the inserts then back off the screws and torque in icrements

Rifle looks great (and very familiar, I have the same set up)

Make sure the torque wrench is in INCH POUNDS. This is what I use. You can use it to also check the torque on the action screws. Worth the price. Just follow the directions carefully. Good for any scope, rings, actions on firearms.

Check the scope manufacturer's website for torque specifications. I know some max at 17 inches and going more can bind or even damage internals.
