Can the Savage .308 bolt face on a target action be opened up to accommodate the .300 Win Mag? I'd like to use a target action on a .300 Win Mag project. Thanks.

Better off to buy a CRF bolt from Midway for $20 than pay a gunsmith the money to do the work.

This is what I did when I built the 338 RUM for my hunting buddy.

CRF?

What's he going to use for an ejector?

Well the ejector will be a problem with the CRF head (a standard magnum bolt head would be a much better choice), but so will getting a 300 win mag in a short action. You might be able to feed it in to the chamber but ejecting an unfired (or even maybe fired) case will require removing the bolt.

With a factory modified baffle I am able to eject a fired 378 Weatherby case without issue.

With a bullet intact in the case one does have to remove the bolt to extract a live round.

No need...extractor does just fine.

Extractor just pulls it out of the chamber. Digging a 300win shell out of a short action won't be easy.

Best to get a push feed magnum bolt head from SSS.
