Here's a Stevens 200 that I got cheap from a gun shop. It was relatively new but the owner dumped it because he said he never could get it to eject. The guy that owned the gunshop let my have it on the cheap just to get it out of the shop. He hadn't really looked at it and I was wanting a bolt action for another project.

As it turns out, the extractor was missing. The ball and the extractor itself was gone, luckily the spring somehow stayed in there. I went to the Midway USA website and ordered a couple each of the ball and the extractor. After I put it in the bolt and test fired it a few times, everything worked perfectly.

I had a batch of 16.5 " Blackout barrels made up with a 1/8 twist using Green Mountain barrel blanks and the standard 5/8-24 thread up front. I built them because at the time, I couldn't find a Blackout barrel at the 16-16.5" length and I wanted to keep it short as it was going to be suppressed. Swapping out the barrel was no big deal.

Here's a pic of the gun and a target using Remington 220 subsonics. There are 8 shots in there and with the rest that I used that's about as good as I can shoot. For a rifle that's considered to be low end, I'm pretty happy with it. Its shown with a Huntertown 308 Kestral.

Well done! I've got a Stevens 200 in the safe waiting to become a project. I like your thinking and results.

How do you like those 220 sub's? I'm shooting them and have the same can waiting on paperwork, out of a AR, wasn't real impressed with the suppression level.

For a cheap rifle these things shoot. I shoot one in 308 and with barely any load dev. it's a 3/4" gun. Read all over where guys find then shooting sub MOA. And I paid $250 for it.

I have a Stevens 200 in 223 that I got about 8 years ago for a Christmas gift from my wife. It shoots 1/2 min of angle out of the box, and I have no plans to "fix" it.. It is my favorite rifle. I built a long range rifle from a 200 in 300 win mag, the only thing original to the rifle is the action and stock, and I modified the stock by stiffening it. it is another sub moa rifle. The newest 200's in my opinion have a really bad trigger from the factory.

I have spent a few hours on my trigger polishing and adjusting and what not and it's mediocre at best. It was horrendous to start with.

A rifle basix trigger will fix that problem, call Jim at NSS and he can fix you up on that. I like the old 3 screw triggers, they can be worked with pretty well, but the newest one on the 200 came from the factory mis assembled, the trigger pull spring was screwed completely out and the hole filled with the red thread locker they use. I cleaned it out and worked with it for about a month off and on, I did get it down to about 8 pounds, but that was it. The rifle basix that I put on it is a dream in comparison.

I hate Remington Subs. They sound like crap in all of my cans. They are by far the LOUDEST subsonic rounds out there. My hand loads are superior in every way...of course in a bolt gun you don't have to worry about cycling issues so you can make them quieter.

I shot another group today using my reloads. 220 Sierras with Red Dot. Put 6 shots in 1 hole.

My plans are to shoot them up and reload the brass. Gonna have to be quieter than what they are or it's not going to be worth what I'm wanting them for. Cycling is my main concern though. May just have to build a bolt gun and get rid of the AR.

I've got 4 of the Blackouts in the AR. None of them hold a candle to my bolt actions as far as quietness goes.

I did run a Thunder Beast 9 inch 308 can on mine and it was quit a bit quieter than the huntertown. Might have to break the bank and get one of them for the AR and the just out the hunter town on a bolt gun. If you don't mind me asking what kind of powder and how much are you loading with?

I use mostly AA5. 8.0 grains.
6.5 of Red Dot.

Lots quieter than most other powders.

A friend of mine insists that AA2 is even quieter than #5, so I hit 3 different gun shops today looking for it and none was to be found.

Are you hunting with these rounds or just target shooting. I'm looking to do some hog hunting and deer management is the reason I ask.

I've whacked several deer with the Blackout. Last one was 153 yard shot using a 9" barreled AR with an AAC Cyclone suppressor on it.

I have yet to recover a bullet on a deer. So far every one has shot right through. That last deer had two other deer with it. They never had a clue as to what happened and continued feeding. I seriously thought about whacking them too...but 1 deer is work. Three on the ground is a lot of work.

That makes me feel a lot better about it. Still might have to get a bolt gun. Thanks man.
