I'm considering getting a Shilen Select Match barrel in .308 Win for my Savage F-T/R. I would like to hear back from people who have or are using these Shilen barrels,I.E.=how they perform, wear, cleanup, and of course the accuracy aspect. How do they compare to cut-rifled barrels that seem to be the rage these days. i have watching on this forum for information, but seem to see everything BUT .308's. Thanks to all that reply.....gpoldblue

Load Development @ 100 yards is a joke with mine ..... Can't tell the dif between 5 in one bug hole VS 5 in one bug hole..So had to start over @ 200

My buddy got a Shilen 308 from NSS. We put it on his 12BTH. It was a 22-250. First trip to the range as 5 shoots a mild load of IMR4895 with 175 Berger VLDs to get the scope on target. Lapua brass with Fed 210M primers. We then had a latter of 0.3 gr increments (3 shots each charge). 6 of the 7 groups were sub-0.75 MOA. He had 3 groups in range 0.5" or lower range. His barrel is a winner. About 30 shots before cleaning. Minimal copper to be found. Great barrel.

gdoldblue,

I have 4 Shilen barrels, 2 select match and 2 match. Very happy with them. All are accurate and a lot easier to clean than factory barrels.

I've got a 28" shilen select match 10 twist barrel and love it. Shoots "good" loads .25moa 5 shot groups or less out past 400 yards and I've shot several 2.0xx" groups at 600 with it. Love it so much I bought another 6mm tube from them. Will shoot about any load I throw together that is reasonable .5" or so at 100.

I have a 26" bull contour 308win select match on order with the 13 twist ratchet rifling. I have high hopes for this barrel, should arrive sometime in july (or sooner I hope!). Plan on shooting 155 palmas, hoping it will stabilize 175 SMK's but not sure if it will. If it doesnt it is not a big deal, some good bullets in the 150 range.
