Is it physically possible to remove one of these without damaging them? Good thing I have extra barrel nuts!! LOL

The answer is "maybe".

A combination of the smooth barrel nut wrench and heat from a torch might or might not work.

Yep. You get that sucker off you won't be putting it back on. Just don't damage the barrel.

Fox there could possibly be a brand new 7-08 barrel in the classifieds once I get this dang thing off! Unless I decide to keep it

Ok the barrel came off, but the nut stayed on the barrel, the barrel just unscrewed and the nut didn't budge. Anyone had this happen before? I swear the nut feel like it's welded to the barrel

I have had that happen. wrapped a leather belt around the barrel, clamped a vise grip to it and laid it on the floor...

If that doesn't work, cut it off with a dremel. go easy so as to not cut all the way thru and hit the barrel. Mae a few cuts and it will eventually break away when twisting.

I finally got it off! Fox I ended up doing just that, I swear there was a teaspoon full of grease and metal debris between the barrel and the nut. This is a brand new rifle btw. I cleaned up the barrel and now a nut goes on there perfectly, I was worried the metal chunks where from te barrel or nut but it wasn't, I've taken barrels off of savages from te 80s and they were perfectly fine. Kinda sad

This is the first new savage I've taken apart, beside the debris in the barrel nut, the scope it came with was loose, one of the Allen screws on the base was stripped, the others loose, and the recoil lug was smaller diameter than the action. Are all new savages like this? The 4 I've built were all 80s and 90s and had superior workmsnsip

Yep. That's why I say don't worry about the nut. It ain't worth the hassle. never known anyone to put one ON a rifle after taking it off.

I would advise against te smooth barrel nuts though, that one took me almost 45 min to get off vs. 30 seconds for the old style. And yes I threw the smooth one in the trash and put on an old style one
