22-250 with 70 and 80 grain berger VLD's ?

Looking for a good starting point for 70's in a 9 twist 22-50

I have Varget, H-380, 760, IMR 3031, 4064, 4320, 4350, to name a few and RE 7,15,19,22,

Also have some 80's laying around that are getting dust on the box. Read that some 9 twists may handle them others may not. Any staring loads to try?

For once I'm not necessarily looking for the fastest load going. :o

If it were me, I'd start the 70 grns out with 31grns? of 4064 or 4895. Maybe 34grns MAX! Depending upon how you seat the bullets, I don't know if you could cram enough 4350 in there. Haven't got a clue on the 80grns...never tried them.

You should be able to stabilize the 80's no problem with the speed the 22-250 is capable of.

I have seen info that goes either way. Looks like some barrels will while others may not. We shall see.

Depending upon barrel length, you should get 3100 +/- with 31grns of 4064 or 4895 behind a 69 or 70 grn bullet. With MAX loads you should be pushing 3400.

You might also try Hodgdon Hybrid 100V. I like the results I've been getting in the 220Swift.

Accuracy was also better with a lot less speed. Around 3,200 or so seemed right in the 26" barrel.

Not yet, have all the others except that and almost every IMR powder except the SC's.

Winchester 22-250 brass has been soft as of late. I just threw out 100 of them that are too fat around the heads after only 2 firings. Did not abuse them any worse than federals or rp's that are still going strong after much abuse.

LOL... Too pricey! Maybe someday.

Got a bunch of data from Walt Berger. He says the 80's probably wont stabilize. I'll try 10 or so for the heck of it. Maybe sell or swap the rest on here if they don't work.
