Hey guys, I recently purchased the Hog Hunter in .308, and have been looking all over for what the best load/ammo for this beast might be? I saw a guy on YouTube with the HH, who had some impressive groups with 150 Rem Corelocks, and a super tight recipe using 150 Nosler spitzers and H4895. The Corelocks work great in my gun same results as the other guy, but when I got to the store the only powder they had in stock was Reloder 15. The Noslers came with three recipes for RL15 42,44,and 46gr; so I started in the middle and loaded the 44. I was able to keep them in the man target at 200yd but that's not really what I'm after (obviously). Does anyone here have a better recipe or any advise should I go up or down to increase accuracy?? I'm using CCI primers and full length resized .308 brass.

If you started with 44grs i would say go up using the 150gr bullets. Alliant shows the max as 49grs. I use it in a 223 and the higher loads seem to work better and burn cleaner. YMMV

I've had really good results in my .308's with 150gr. Nosler Ballistic tips and Accubonds with Reloder 15. It's my favorite powder for .308. But I thought it was virtually extinct lately?? Where on earth did you find this?

I've had excellent results / accuracy with IMR 4895 and RL15 in conjunction with Nosler 150 BT's and the Custom Comps.
I run the 4895 at 42.4gr for best results. Of course, your results will no doubt vary.

What is it you want to do with the rifle - hunt varmints, medium game, big game, punch paper, ring steel at longer distances? That will tell you what bullet you should be looking at. I will tell you that the Hog Hunter's fast twist barrel likes heavier bullets.

Savage uses the 10" twist for their 30 cal stuff (except in the 12 F/TR which has a 12" IIRC) and in the 308's and 30-06's I have used I have had no trouble with the 150 class of bullets. My 12FV in 308 just loves the 155 A-Max and the 150gr SST with Varget. I have also tried RL15 in other 308's with 150gr Interlocks and had good results. You will most likely find 2 loads that give you better accuracy nodes, one nearer the bottom of the charge range and one near the top.

Alliant developed RL-15 expressly for the .308. It works well for all members of the .308 family.
