Hello all,

New to the forum and had a quick question.

A coworker of mine wants to sell me a Savage model 99 I think in 30-30 (has .30 on the barrel so I am assuming here) in about 90%-95% condition for $500 but also included is 2 damascus 12ga double barrel shotguns that i have not seen but am told are in about 70% condition maker is unknow but he says they are old. He is getting rid of the shotguns because he doesn't know anything about them and just isn't into them.

Edit: Found out one of the shotguns is a Syracuse Arms Company 12 gauge shotgun. Going to buy them Monday will post pics if anyone cares to see.

I think it is an ok deal but I wanted to get others opinions.

Thanks,

MrBook

Well took a look at the 99 and the two shotguns today.

The 99 was not in 90% condition as far as I am concerned I would put it in 70% area. There was quite a bit of rust on the lever, the barrel and in the action but the only pitting I saw was on the under side of the barrel and it looked pretty minor, bluing was very minimal. The stock and forend where very dirty and scratched but no major cracks that I could see. According to the serial number the gun dates to around 1918-1920.

Other things to note is it did have a Lyman No. 1A sight on it and the bore looked dirty but I think could be cleaned up pretty well.

Still not sure if I am going to pick it up or not.

Opinions?

Thanks,

Yep, doesn't sound like a $500 gun now, even with the tang sight.

Thanks, I didn't end up getting it but I still want one. I didn't know much about the 99 until I started researching them and it is a very cool firearm that would look really good next to my other lever actions. The search continues....
