Anyone shooting a Shilen 204 10 twist from Northland? I just got one and was wondering if they are all throated this long or just this one, I can barely get to the lands with a 32gr Vmax or BK with out the bullet falling out of the case the 40's are a little better with the exception of the Berger. BTW it will shoot the 50gr Bergers well under .5 at 100yrds I haven't been able to get to the longer range yet to see what it will do although a 50gr bullet from a 204 isn't really what I had in mind.

Don't have that specific tube but........
Sounds like it was throated for the 50's. Thats what that twist rate was designed for.
The 204 in general is noted for long throats. Its also noted for long jump.
32's are not the pills you should be trying to use in that barrel. You can but it is not designed for that.
Get some 40gn V-Max and let em jump. Should get you down to .25moa with some tweaking.
Varying seating depths will have effect on accuracy but you need not be near the lands.

40's and 50's are optimum in the 204R. No one cares how fast a bullet is going out the muzzle.
Downrange performance is best achieved with the heavy's.

If thats not what your looking for I'll take it off your hands for ya ;)

I bought that same barrel from Jim at NSS. Mine shoots 40g hornady Vmax in the .3 all day long and that is factory loaded ammo. Saving my brass to start and get into reloading soon and see what i can do to improve. I am interested to try loading some of the heavier burgers.

The 45gn Hornady SP is actually a really short bullet. My 1:9 Shilen barreled AR-15 shoots them fine. Shoots 50gn Bergers and 40gn Vmax and BT better though. It will dump 10 Vmax sub MOA in less than 30sec. The Bergers won't fit in the magazine making it a single shot with them. I have some 55gn Bergers that I should load up to see if it will stabilize them.
