I have a question on the Hornady SST 165gr in 308. Per hornady they say to set the OAL to 2.750, is there a reason for this instead of 2.800, would it be because of the ogive and it being longer bullet. Also if i set the bullet to the lands that gives my OAL 2.870, I plan on going .020 off the land so 2.850 being that. that's .100 further than recommended. Is that too far of an OAL, or should that be fine with that bullet. I plan on starting with the lowest gr and working my way up.

Also has anybody got a recommendation for this particular load., Im using varget, Winchester and Federal FC brass, Winchester primers, Rifle is Savage 10FP. I am still fairly new to reloading, Given this is my 2nd bullet I have tried to load in a while.

That OAL isn't per Hornady, for YOUR gun; that is accounting for ANY chamber made since the 50's.
"Is it to much jump?" Shoot it and find out for yourself. Some guns and bullets are particular, some aren't.
Same with the load recommendation. Guns=women. No two are identical.
