Hello everyone, I have a savage 16 in .22-250. I have had a idea kicking around in my head about building a 300 wsm off this action. What issues would I run into? I know it would need a barrel, mag bolt face, and magazine metal. Is there anything I am missing? Any thoughts would be apreceated. I also have a 110 that I may just build off. Thanks

Barrel thread diameter? I suspect you have a small shank action and 300WSM generally requires a large shank barrel.

I would go with the 110 action since you can use the larger diameter bolt head that works with the 300WSM. All you have to do with the large shank barrel is have it re-threaded to small shank....this is not complicated and a gunsmith can do it fairly quickly....have done this several times. I like the 300WSM better on the long action. You can seat the long heavy bullets like the Berger 210gr way out and not have any magazine length issues.

Personally, if I had a long and short action receiver right now with correct bolt heads and magazines I would still go with the long action. The 300WSM was put on short actions in order to get the approximate performance of the 300 WinMag in a short action.

I was kind of leaning that way. Question on shank size though. Isn't the 110 and 10 that same shank? Or am I miss understanding? I know that the RUMS and WSM with the large shank but I thought everything else was just the standered.

You are correct. The RUM ,WSM and Target actions are large shank the rest in 10 and 110 are standard.
