just bought a 220 swift stainless fluted barrel with a 12 twist. (savage varmit barrel)

any insite on what bullets the 220 swift savage barrels like? and a good powder to use with it. I currently keep H4350, H4831, Varget, and Hybrid 100v on hand. Thought I would start out with the hybrid.

any help would be appriciated.

I would suggest you try 4064. For years my favorite and most reliable 220 Swift load has been Win brass, Win LR primers, 37.5 grns of 4064, and a 55 grn Sierra bullet. In a 24" barrrel you should get around 3700-3750fps and that will take care of just about anything from gophers to whitetails.(If you put it in the right place.)

Don't know much about the Swift or reloading in general...

But hear tell that IMR 4064, WW 760, and Hodgdon H 414 work OK in the Swift.

Hammer How much longer do we have to wait till you post the latest views of your reloading estate.

I am sure many of us are looking forward to seeing the changes that have been made over the last couple of years.

Hammer has an entire gallery of 220 Swifts including many of the last ones (and probaly the first one) ever made.

I don't know a whole bunch about the 220 Swift either. Hear tell from reliable sources that 760 and 414 are pretty much the same powder. Kinda like outta the same barrel but in different pretty cans. Same sources tell me that they/it are fairly decent in the Swift and the 22-250.

I have heard that the CENTERPIECE in that gallery is a solid rosewood case holding the 220 Swift barrel that he beat HITLER out of.

Haven't bought more than three Swifts in the past couple of weeks. So they ain't accumulating as fast as they used to.

Was talking to a commercial loader today who says he can add to my loading capacity and load 220 Swifts with Hornady VMAX bullets for less than $300 per thousand with me supplying brass. He can setup several Dillon Super 1050s to support the effort.

My wife was complaining about the additional Dillon boxes that have been sitting in the loading area and haven't been opened in over six months. But the kids will be home in June and can help me get everything going.

Been working on the Savage action ejector so that it throws the empty Swift brass directly into the Dillon case feeder. In combination with an automatic case lube spraying setup on the case feeder and hydraulic Dillon operation, making some progress in keeping up with prairie dog town needs. Need to work on an automatic barrel changing setup or perhaps a Gatling type operation capable of benchrest competition accuracy.

Have to split limited time between the 219 Donaldson Wasp, the Swift, and acquiring vintage 16 gauge and 44 Special guns.

A golf cart mounted air cooled 220 Swift Vulcan with a Dillon trailer?.....I like that.

If Hammer is kind enough to share some more pictures with us you should see his completely restored CJ 5 JEEP with 6 Savage 220 Swifts mounted on the roll over cage. He uses that for the P dogs on yonder mountain.

It will be a couple of weeks, but will consider either reposting some old pictures or making some new ones.

Was warned sometime past that posting those pictures made some folks upset.

Hammer don't worry about those that get upset they are happiest when in that state, so you are doing them a favor. That way they don't have to hunt for something to be happy about.
