If you're concerned about ammo availability, then the 300 win mag or the 7mm mag would be tough to beat. Components for these cartridges is tough to find like any other cartridge, but you can get ammo in just about any store that sells ammo.

Yep get a box of ammo or 2 and save the brass as you find your prefered reloading components.

I didn't read all the posts, shame on me, but if you're punching paper or thinking about competition, you might find one of the 6s will do. I use a necked down version of the 6.5X47 brass netting the 6mmX47 Lapua. At 600-900 it's just fine. Something about that last 100 yards though. At 1000 I drop more than the difference between 900 and 1000 yards would suggest I should.
Think it might be the shooter. LOL
Actually most of the top shooters in F-Class are shooting 7s, i.e. 180 Berger Hybrid. Check the BC on that one. Whew! I just like being different. LOL

I've had excellent long range results shooting a 280 Ackley Improved.
