I just received mine from Bud's in Kentucky and the 16.5" barrel is indeed heavy contour, but is non-fluted. I'm curious whether these models (96699) are made using the fluted or non-fluted threaded barrels. Anyone?

That's a new variant model from Savage; you might be the first on here with one. Which bolt handle do you have, the cylindrical one with two machined grooves in it, or the more traditional ball-end?

Their website doesn't even have a pic of the right rifle for that version; they are showing the 22LR (Mark II) it seems--telltale curved magazine instead of longer/more square mag hanging down. Maybe on the 93R17 they aren't fluting?

What they show for 93R17 FV-SR

and 93R17 FV, for comparison...

Thanks for the response. The rifle I received looks exactly like the 93R17 FV-SR pictured at your embedded link. In other words, it has the tactical bolt handle, the plastic stock and optics rail (EGW no less), the 16.5" threaded barrel, accu trigger, etc. The only difference is that the barrel is not fluted, as shown in the linked picture. I have e-mailed Bud's and Savage and have not yet received a response to the question on whether the non-fluted barrel is the normal configuration for the 93R17 FV-SR.

Anyone else seen one of these rifles that would care to tell me what's going on with mine?
