savage 22/250

im new to savage guns and this forum but a co-worker said he had a 22/250 he wanted to sell.
he said it had modle III stamped on the barrel. is there such a beast or did he mean modle 111.
i havent seen it yet but he said walnut w/bolt action. 22/250. only shot 10 times.
any info would be helpful.
is it a good one or stear clear gun.
a value estimate would be helpful too.
anyone have a picture???

Probably a 111, which is the sport version of the 22-250. Go to www.savagearms.com and look at the centerfire guns. Should answer your questions.

Go to the FAQ section at the top of this subforum. Go to 'Savage action lengths'. Read it. It may sway your decision if you're wanting to have a large selection of stocks available to swap around.

If it is a model 111 and a 22-250 then it is an older model and maybe a 14 twist barrel.

Depending on the year it could either be a regular long action(savage used to put short action calibers onto long action actions), or it could be an intermediate short action(Savages first try at a short action. Not very many aftermarket stocks available for this one).

I'll never say a Savage is not worth having cause it seems like they all shoot great and give you lots of other options down the road.

It's probably a good starter Savage providing you can get it at a very good price, if not look at the more up to date models. New rifles can be had for about 400.00.

im not one to be changing stuff up.unless its broke, i dont fix it.
im just looking for a good shooter to put back for my sons.
do you think that price is in the ballpark for a 111 with 10 down the pipe???
if it'll kill a yote out to 200/250yrds and punch paper decent, i'll have the happiest 7yr old in the world.
( i've heard it before...hes too young. hes my side kick and he shoots my ruger 250 all the time.)

Yes, it is well worth $200. I am assuming it is in "like new" shape since it's only been shot 10 times, but for 200 it's worth it if it has some scratches on it too.

He's NOT too young either!

Unless it has some major defects then $200 is plenty cheap. The action alone should fetch that much if not more.

got it today. post pic sometime
but in "nice" shape a lil scratched from being stored in a closet.
it has iron sights. it took it out and shot a few groups at 50 and 75 yrds.
50 were tight and 75 were not. not bad for off hand. im sure it was the shooter and not the gun.
i need to find some mounts and ive got a old 9x scope to put on it for now.
i think it was well worth the 200 bucks.

i forgot to thank the member wwho put the trigger job post in the FAQ section. it helped me out alot.
that should help them groups tighten up
