I have a model 11 staggerfeed action that is being used for a 6BR build. I want to eliminate the magazine box to facilitate better bedding on the bottom of the receiver.

Questions: Will the SSS centerfeed ramp fit the cutout of this receiver? How can I remove the magazine box without ruining it? Is there any reason why I should not do this?

FWIW, I'm building/inletting/bedding the stock myself.

Finally, does anyone sell the SSS ramp besides SSS?

Thanks, Steve

Check out the sticky, Savage FAQ's & Gunsmithing Links, for magazine removal. Great article with pictures. Can be found just above the thread you started.

I use the ones from Midway, not sure of the brand. Then fill the stock's magwell with casts bullets and epoxy. Once I can get it close, I bed the action with the single shot plate. I think the are called score high followers.

Here is a rough picture prior to bedding the action. The follower is epoxied in place at this time though.

I also use the Score High Benchrest Follower sold by MidwayUSA and Brownells. It is intended to sit on top of the magazine follower, so if you remove the magazine you will have to find another way to retain it. I have mine held to the bottom of my action with tape, and I filled the blind magazine well with foam rubber. It works and there is nothing to disturb it. If you use bedding compound, you may have to seal around the follower or compound may leak into the action.
