It seems to me the Remington guys have to put more money in stocks, triggers. etc.

And it seems that you have just stumbled on the Beauty of the Savage. Same performance or often better, for less money, and less money spent to the smith cuz you can do it all yourself. ;)

No, ATK Thank God! Look what Remington ended up doing to the Marlin line! Some of the rifles they've turned out have been real POS with poor fitting stocks crooked sights and barrel droop.

What he said! I was a huge Remington fan for many years and own several older BDL's (honestly, they are still the best rifles I have ever owned)....I wouldn't buy a new off Remington right now...it's sad :(

The recoil lug is the same on the Savage as the rem 700 sps.

well, sort-of. the shank diameter is slightly different, and I assume the Rem has a smaller diameter action or something. I installed a PTG lug on my Savage and it doesn't really match the diameter of the action and barrel nut.

These and many other videos like the ones by nutfancy show 500, 1000 yards being shot by savage rifles without crazy mods... Heavy barrels in my experience will maintain accuracy longer during a shooting session... Example and axis barrel and a heavy barrel being shot side by side... The axis moa will start suffering quicker because is light, heads up and there is more expansion! They were not meant to be shot 50 times in a row with no cool down! I have a stock 11-111 in 30-06 and its lighter barrel... Not as light as axis but light... I shoot sub moa at 100 ... 1 moa at 200 and i shoot a 550 yard gong with no issues! Its the furthest target my range has ...If i am shooting for a long time i make sure i run a snake through it and let it cool down while i shoot something else... That way i stay consistent! But just like an ar15... If you are doing lots of shooting and rapid shooting... Heavy barrel is recomended

JRD, Savage was bought by Alliant Techsystems (ATK) in May, 2013. ATK owns Weaver Optics, Speer, Federal and Blaser. Happily, ATK has no relationship with Remington, Freedom Group or Cerberus.
