Hey guys I'm building a 20 practical and need some loads. I have a little H335, lots of varget and lt-32, some IMR3031, and about a pound of bl-c2. Anybody have any good starting loads for 32-40 grain bullets?

Don't forget to look up 20 tactical, you can use the same load data, they only difference is the shoulder angle.

alliant 10-X, IMR8208XBR, accurate 2230, Hodgon 322, with 35 gr berger, 32 gr Sierra B.K. all shoot great. With these powders I start 23gr & work up to 25 to 26 gr. Be careful, velocity & pressure come up pretty guick, I work up in half gr increment's, when I get near max, back off to 3 tenths gr.

Got excellent results with H4198 and Sierra 39gr bullets.

Coyoteslayer223: I absolutely love my .20 Practical Criterion barreled Model 12 Savage. 1/11 twist. My best coyote load is 22.0 g of IMR 4198 with a 35 gr. Berger at 2.20 oal. Pretty much any powder you can use for .223/5.56 will work in the .20 P, but here's a few to play with.
25.0 g of 8208 w/ a 32 VMax, 23.5 H4198 w/ a 32 VMax, 25.8 g of Reloader 10X w/ 32 VMax
21.5 g of H4198 w/35 Berger, 23.5 g of H335 w/35 Berger
23.0 g of H4198 w/39 SBK, 24.5 g of Reloader 10X w/ 39 SBK,
24.6 g of Reloader 10X w/ 40 VMax, 25.0 g of H335 w/ 30 VMax

The Bergers stay in the Yotes and do little fur damage but cause real trauma on the inside. Most stay inside the yote and they don't usually go anywhere.

Viht N-133 will push the 32 grain past 4200 FPS! 26" barrel 12 twist. Was extreme on the PDs this spring. That is the only powder so far I have ran threw the two 20 practicals I load for with the 32s.

My standard load is "my" max at 26 grains right at 4200 FPS. I was able to go up to 26.5 grains with tight groups but it was a bit hot for my liking. Typical groups are coming in at about 3/4" at 200 yrds.

I load with a mag primer on hot loads, a standard primer is too easily pierced.

Love the 20s!

My very first load thru my CBI 1:11 with varget and 40 v max. Shot some good groups with 26.5 gr. Can't remember what they chronied but it does shoot. I've settled on 25 gr of VV N-135 with the same bullet. Chrony reads right at 3900 fps. Accurate as as all get and cuts up PDs like a buzz saw. +1 on the mag primers. I was getting some pierced primers before I switched well.

What kind of mag primers do you guys prefer or does it depend on the gun?

I've been loading the 35 grn noslers HP's with 23.0 grns of IMR4198,CCI450 SRMP and getting 4,200 fps with a 26" CBI 1:11 barrel from NSS.
Accuracy is unbelievable. Shooting it at 100 yards is boring.

Already started forming more 20 practical brass for next year's spring PD shooting. Got 1400 of them processed last weekend from once fired 223rem brass. Now to resize the 3,000 rounds we shot up this spring. My dad and I went into the field with nearly 1500 rounds each and we where out of ammo for the 20s by the beginning of the third day and we hit better then 85% first round hits, might have been higher, closer to 90%.

Got 32 lbs of Viht N-133 and more then 6,000 of the hornady 32 grain Z-Max to load, hoping this year to not run out of ammo :)

The 20 practical is an awesome round, at a half inch high at 100 we held on hair all the way to over 300yrds! Perfect for our PD shooting! When we ran out of 20 ammo we pulled out the 223rems and it just wasn't the same. My dad used to believe in and use nothing but his trusty 10-22 and 22lr ammo till he saw what I was doing to the PDs with my 20! I put a 20 practical together for him with a Shilen 26" 12 twist and he was hooked! He actually took his 10-22 out shooting the PDs after a couple days with the 20 and his comments where priceless! The 10-22 might be only a fun plinking gun now as the 20 is that AWESOME!

Yes, use CCI 450s for max loads and didn't have any problems with pierced or blown primers.
