So I have a new savage 111 and Im trying to replace the bolt handle. Probleme is it wont even budge. Anyone have any tips to get the hex screw off the back of the bolt so I can pull the handle off?

Take the bolt out of the rifle, insert correct allen wrench, set bolt and wrench on floor resting on a shop rag to protect from scratches and step on it until the Bolt Action Screw (BAS) breaks loose. Some are so tight it sounds like your breaking the bolt when it finally lets loose.

Sometimes impact helps...what I do is put the hex wrench into the screw, hold the bolt in my hand and smack the hex wrench with a stick. Amazing how well that works!

I recently did mine. Put the gun in a vice and left the bolt in. Was able to pop it with a little bit of effort. Very happy with my new handle! Will be nice when it gets cold out and I can work the bolt with ease with my gloves on! http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/12/nuzu2e7e.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/12/hy3e6u6y.jpg

Changing the bolt handle while the bolt is in the rifle
is great way to break the bolt head retaining pin

+1. Always take bolt out of gun.
