Work as of late has been a little, let's say trying. So I decided to skip lunch today and take two of my Savages to the range. I took my new 116 30-06 to shoot it for the first time and to get the scope dialed in after mounting it Sunday. And as always my 17 hmr came along for the ride. That lil 17 just amazes me every time I shoot it! I finally got the 116 on target after my worst bore sighting job ever. I put 20 rounds through the 30-06 and that light gun with a crap recoil pad sure gets your attention more than I thought it was going to. I put another 100 or so through the 17. By the time I got back to the office I bet my blood pressure was 50 points lower. Need to do this more often!

What kind of groups did you end up with shooting the 30-06? The 17HMR is a tack driver!

It took about 10 shots to get the scope set about 1.5" high at 100. After bore sighting I am usually close at 25 yards but not yesterday, had to move the target to about 15 to see where I was hitting. After that I shot 3 groups fine tuning the scope left to right and all were in that 1.5-2" range. Factory 150 grain corelokts, not letting the barrel cool and using a half a bag of wood chips from the chickens as a front rest LOL, and no rear rest. Ill get more serious with the setup when I start working on hand loads.

Did someone say 30-06 handloads???
I have had really good luck with IMR 4350 and 165 gr HPBT Sierra Game Kings. Best accuracy near a max load.
Have a couple of 06s that will absolutely stack em into one ragged hole.
Dont know why but they seem to shoot better than the Match Kings for me. Must be the ogive
Good luck

I had that happen to me, it took 20 rounds to finally get it sighted in :/ 147 grain .308. Shots ended up being all over the place.

I have a Model 93 in 17HMR as well, mine is just left handed....it too always amazes me how accurate it is. 10 shot groups at 100 around 1.5" are not uncommon.
